Kiwi/ Chinese Gooseberry smooth skinned (Actinidia arguta) Variety: Kens Red
Known as the Kiwi Hardy it produces bunches of delicious kiwi flavoured fruit. A climbing vine that will grow to 7m plus. Eat when fruit turns slightly soft to experience the most amazing flavour. They are great straight off the vine, added to a fruit salad or a dessert dish. It’s one of my top treats to offer, on a Tour and Tasting session. See the Tours page for the dates of the next public tour.
Pollination: Female. Requires Issai as a pollinator
Harvest time: October/ November
Grown as: Container
Hardiness: Very hardy ( known as the Hardy Kiwi)
Aspect: To climb up through a small tree or large bush. They do well here at the Forest Garden Falmouth at the base of Elaeagnus umbellata. With their self clinging tendrils using the tree as a support to reach up to the sunshine to aid flowering and fruiting.
