Blackberry (Rubus fruticosus) Variety: Thorne free

£7.50

This commercial form of blackberry grows without thorns, but with large sized tasty fruits making it a joy to harvest in September. It's a primo cane so it will grow and fruit on the current season's wood. Someone once described the final harvest of the season early one October like tasting a fortified wine as the last of the juice was borderline alcohol on consumption. Growing a comfortable 3m plus in each direction in one season. The best location we have found here is in full sun and trained along horizontal bamboo canes. These can be about hip high, strapped to wooden posts, and tied to the bamboo with soft tie material such as slices of bicycle innertube.

Pollination: Self fertile

Harvest time: September

Grown as: Bare root (2 year plants)

Hardiness: Hardy
