Monkey puzzle (Araucaria araucana) container grown 2L pot
An evergreen tree originating from Chile. Remarkably salt wind tolerant and reasonably cold hardy. A striking architecturally pleasing specimen. These trees produce an edible seed or nut which is worth while eating. I have seen ripe seed fall in August from a fruiting single tree in the middle of Brecon in Wales where the seeds fell on to the pavement. They have a thin shell which is easily removed for consumption. Initially taking it’s time to establish it’s self but within 7 to 8 years their visual impact scores 10 out of 10. I have used them successfully in a shelter belt within a maritime environment, literally 4 metres from a beach in Cornwall.
